What a terrible place to put a sentry. Almost like expecting a pyro’s main weapon work underwater. I do agree that the spy does make a good point and the engy does need a little boost. But, I also think you can find a weakness with all the classes like this, such as a heavy versus a sniper. These vulnerabilities are what make the team to use teamwork.
Support. This class, along with the medic and sniper classes appeals to those players who enjoy supporting their team. For this type of player, there is more enjoyment in serving than being served. Perhaps that mindset is hard to grasp in a gameplay culture that is evermore bent on ‘you’. The you in Team Fortress is the team.
I agree with ’slick:’ a team must function together to succeed. But I believe that the designers could afford the support classes with better advantages. Most times, the support classes are not endorsed, not defended by their own team. The other classes are charging ahead.
Equip the engie, the medic, the sniper with self defense.
Perhaps the engie could have a tazer for close quarters paralyzation. The medic could have his infection ability back. The sniper could camoflague himself, a standard part of sniper training for those of you that watch the History Channel. These are simple to do design steps that could make these support classes more enjoyable to play.
TF stands apart from most games because of these support classes. The creators of TFC must have been mindful that it takes defense and offense to make a good game. There is as much joy in the well held position as is there is joy snookering that defense.
I don’t think that the TFC designers should make the ’supporting classes’ invulnerable, but I do believe they could equip them for the task at hand. That means designing maps with all classes in mind.

The video was more of a joke; an SG on Mach4 like that would be destroyed as it was being dropped.
