In what Shane on the steampowered forums refers to as the “Boy Scout-ization” of gaming, merit badges and all manner of whatnot seem to be part of what keeps players coming back for more. This has caused a little (unreasonable) controversy amongst some hardcore DoD fans, but I think they’re harmless and can be fun. And, thus far, they’re not tied to unlockable content.
I don’t know what it is…it seems when the Palermo Update was in beta, I was achieving stuff left and right – while I only have two stinking achievements since they were reset. Here are my two measly medals thus far for my service to God, Country, and Server:


Now let’s not sugarcoat it, these Achievements are very easy to get. How else do you think I can get any of them? I still don’t have the danged Flare gun in TF2. You know, I think they should have one for merely joining a server. It could be the “Successful Deployment!” achievement.

I haven’t acheived too much in DoD:S so far.. probably a half-dozen or less. However, I haven’t played it much either.
On the other hand, on TF2, which I do play with some regularity, I have found that I’m gradually picking up acheivements. I almost have enough for the 3rd medic checkpoint. I have fewer for pyro since I really enjoy playing heavies much more (and killing pyros
