I thought Shane expressed everything I wanted to say about the new Freezecam in DoD:S. This was in response to someone lauding the old Deathcam….basically the argument was if the Sniper or MG barely moved, you wouldn’t be able to tell where he was*.
“98% of the time I know exactly where he is. Because the view centers on him. So, if there’s a window there or some other obstruction you [know] where they’re hiding. If the view is over a longer distance and it invokes line-of-site over distance issues, yes, its a bit harder, but that would fall into the 2% exception we’re talking about.
And, the game is not solely about making snipers happy. For instance as a support the freezecam is much better for masking my movement, etc… I think the people who have a legit gripe is a subset of subset. The first subset being snipers and the 2nd being those snipers who A. NEVER EVER EVER MOVE or B. Are not clever enough to use the freezecam in their favor by feigning movement.
So, for the overwhelming majority of players/classes/scenarios who just got a kill, the freezecam actually gives the killed players LESS information about their killer.” – Shane [source]
*Definition of terms:
Deathcam refers to what happened when you got killed before the Palermo update (the camera centered on your killer for a brief time before putting you in spectate mode while waiting to respawn.
Freezecam is post-Palermo update, (as in TF2 and other games, so I hear) where after you are killed, the camera zooms to your killer and freezes for a brief time and then goes to spectate mode.
I would hasten to add that Freezecam also keeps these great DoD:S screenshots coming. OK, back to my packing.
